Artist To Artist: Allara and Arik Blum (2020)

In a very special 40 minute special Artist to Artist, Yorta Yorta musician Allara and musician and producer Arik Blum chatted about Yorta Yorta Uncle William Cooper and the anti-Nazi Protests he led through Melbourne, and how his legacy lives on today.  Cooper's radical act of empathy involved denouncing Kristallnacht and the Nazi Government’s treatment of the Jewish people, despite having his own mob to look after. Allara and Arik's intergenerational histories are tied together in surprising revelations, they unpack privilege and duty in Australia today and Allara delivers a powerful musical performance. Watch Allara & Arik.

Allara and Arik have put together an extensive list of references about Uncle William Cooper, the origins and meaning of the song Ngarra Burra Ferra, the Australian Aborigines League, Uncle Boydie, a Koori perspective of Australia and the Holocaust and connections between Jews and Yorta Yorta communities. Well worth a look here.
